MAIN LINE-UP:

Bill Sowerby

Bill Sowerby
Bill’s been playing in folk bands since he was a lad, and was a regular member of the original Green Ginger Band and the highly acclaimed Yorkshire Garland Band among others. Bill plays fiddle, mandolin and banjo and can turn his hand to guitar and bass as well.

Jean Wastling

Jean Wastling (caller and MC)
Jean has been dancing since she was eight years old, and as a teenager attained teaching standard in ballroom and old-time dancing. She was a member of the Green Ginger Garland Dancers for over 20 years and has also been calling for barn dances for almost as long.

Tom Gaynard

Tom Gaynard
Tom’s main interest is in Celtic music and he plays a variety of high and low whistles. He joined the band in 1983.

Chris Wade

Chris Wade
A co-founder of the band, Chris is an agent for Strada Music. She also founded Beverley Folk Festival in 1983 and continued as its general manager and programmer until 2015. She now programmes music and comedy at the East Riding Theatre in Beverley and the music for the Staithes Festival of Arts and Heritage. Chris plays bass.

Sam Martyn

Sam Martyn
Sam is the youngster in the band. She is also a member of the Hull folk bands Beggar’s Bridge and Fiddlers Elbow, and dances with Green Ginger Garland. Lately she has been a part of the Reg Meuross song-cycle and touring production 12 Silk Handkerchiefs. Sam plays keyboards.

When she’s not busy teaching music in Manchester, the multi-talented Ellie (daughter of Tom) joins us on violin.

A long-standing member of the Beverley Garland band, Graham occasionally joins us on guitar.
